Rhode Island Lesbians First to Marry With Out-of-State Approval

Wendy Becker and Mary Norton, a lesbian couple from Rhode Island who won the right to marry in Massachusetts because laws in their home state do not expressly prohibit same-sex marriage, tied the knot before friends and family in a ceremony held Sunday.

Rhode Island Woman Ordered to Stop Anti-gay Slurs

A Rhode Island judge has ordered a woman Friday to stop directing hate slurs at her gay neighbor, saying the insults amounted to 'hateful conduct' and interfered with the man's right to live in peace. The attorney general's newly formed civil rights advocate's office accused the woman of harassing a gay neighbor with AIDS and threatening him with violence.

Rhode Island House Leader Comes Out As Committee Debates Gay Marriage
House Majority Leader Gordon Fox today told a crowd of 150 supporters of same-sex marriage that he is gay. "I've been in a committed relationship with a man for six years and I am gay," Fox told the cheering crowd at the Capitol. "It's the first time I've publicly announced that and it's an important message to get out."
